“Ageing healthily” is one of the four objectives of the Health 2030 strategy adopted by the Federal Council in December 2019. The conference focused on three main themes in presentations, a panel discussion and discussions with the 250 participants:

  • Prevention of non-communicable diseases
In his opening address, Federal Councillor Alain Berset emphasised the value of investing in prevention in every phase of life. “If we can extend the healthy lifespan by up to three years we will have gained a great deal – both in terms of people’s quality of life and for our health system.”
  • Differentiated images of old age
Delphine Roulet Schwab explained in her presentation that we need to rethink the way we approach old age: “We need to concentrate on what elderly people can do, on their skills, and not on what they are no longer able to do.”
  • Behavioural economics in health research and prevention
Sam Hanes, a behavioural economist (Behavioural Insights Team, UK), presented the latest findings from this field of research and talked about experience with new approaches in the United Kingdom.

Round-table discussions enabled the participants to exchange views on selected aspects of the implementation of Health 2030.
